Sacred Moon Cycles

Years ago, growing from my experiences as a student of Prana Vinyasa Yoga, I adopted the practice of living aligned with the rhythms of nature. Everything has cycles: the days, the months, the seasons, even our lives. When I intentionally flow in harmony, rather than pushing against these seasons, I feel a grounded sense of calm, connection, order, and ease that permeates all aspects of my life.

Over the next month, I invite you to join me in praying and meditating in alignment with the cycles of the moon. This week was the full moon, which is traditionally a time to celebrate the fullness in our lives. What have you planted and nurtured that has come to fruition? This is a time for joy and gratitude! Take a moment to reflect on how far you’ve come. What can you celebrate today? How can you acknowledge God’s abundant provision?

Next comes the waning gibbous moon, a time to focus on sharing our blessings and practicing intentional acts of kindness, followed by the third quarter half-moon, a sacred time of letting go and forgiving. The waning crescent moon calls us to a time of rest, reflection, and renewal. New moons are times to embrace new beginnings, and during the waxing crescent moon we nurture our dreams and intentions with trust and faith. With the first quarter half-moon, we are called to view our challenges as opportunities for growing stronger. The waxing gibbous moon invites us to prepare our hearts and lives to receive goodness. Finally, the full moon comes around again, and we celebrate the fullness in our lives with joy and gratitude.

Holy One, thank you for the seasons and cycles of nature that guide us to move intentionally through our lives. Amen.
