Land of Abundance

We adopted a female terrier mix, last April.  She is an intelligent, high-energy dog that needs a lot of attention.  We should have done more research on the needs of terriers before adopting her.  We would have been more prepared for her daily need for stimulation.  One of her issues has been resource guarding.  Resource guarding is when a dog growls, lunges, or bites over food or toys.  Our almost 14-year-old Shih Tzu mix never exhibited any resource guarding, so we initially didn’t understand what was happening.  When we gave them both treats, Nelson would eat hers and then go after Grace’s treat.  If Grace was going outside, Nelson made sure she was coming too.  If Grace was getting petted, Nelson would maneuver her way between your hand and Grace, so you were only petting Nelson.  Nelson has gotten a lot better over the past months.  I hope she’s finally internalized that she lives in a land of abundance.  There are enough treats, toys, and attention for everyone.

I want to live in a land of abundance.  I want to wake up and know that I have all that I need.  I want to show up with love and energy and grace and joy.  I want to learn, the way Nelson is learning, that there is enough for all, even for “holy terror” terrier puppies.

Creator,

Help us to remember that you created a land of abundance for us.  Help us to be generous with ourselves and each other.  Help us to know that love is infinite.  Grace to us this week.  May we find it and may we give it away.

Amen
