Thank You
This is the last column that I will write for Peace Church. Next month, I will be moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth area to live near my son and daughter-in-law. In my nearly eight years in the Kansas City area, I have experienced some exhilarating highs and devastating lows.
One of my happiest constants here in Kansas City has been Peace Church. It seems like only yesterday I walked into the Barstow School on a Sunday morning not knowing what to expect. As I got closer to the meeting area, I recognized the music – what church plays Springsteen? I knew right then that Peace was the place for me.
Through all the highs and lows, you have been with me. Having a place where one is welcomed and accepted makes such a big difference, particularly in the tough times. Holly, Paula and the rest of Peace staff have created a special environment with an instinctive knack for bringing people together. It takes more than walls and stained-glass windows to make a church; Peace proves that every week.
It’s been a pleasure getting to know you. I’ll remember fondly the small group dinners, the first Fridays, movie club, service projects and all of the great music. I have appreciated being challenged to think and do more. I like going to a church that feels everyone deserves God’s love. We need more of that in the world right now.
There’s an old saying that we plan and God laughs. If that’s the case, there’s been a lot of laughter lately. I came to Kansas City giving up almost everything to help my special needs son. It was definitely worth the sacrifice. I leave soon for Euless, Texas having lost almost everything else, but my spirit and hope for the future remains intact. I’ll carry Peace Church in my heart as I face an unexpected future, grateful for the people, experiences and lesson learned.
Thank you, Peace Church, for touching my life. I will not forget you.
